AGN President Fires Members, Suspends Others

July 27, 2013 |

The people of Kware area of Ongata Rongai in Kajiado, Kenya were in shock when they saw a headless cock in their environment.

Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) National President, Ibinabo Fiberesima, has wielded the big stick by suspending and firing some erring members. Former Secretary-General, Emeka Rollas and ex-chairman of the Lagos AGN, Emeka Rising has been expelled from the guild. Also the PRO, Frank Dallas has been impeached; others suspended were Stella Marris Nnaji, Tunde Talabi, Chima Doris and Fred Ekata.

Last week in a press parley in Lagos, Ibinabo fumed at the way her exco members and others were carrying themselves, giving the guild a bad name and this led to her wielding the big stick.

She said that affected members were suspended from the guild for offences ranging from anti-guild activities to corruption and related breaches. Don Pedro Aganbi, former PRO and contestant at the Lagos AGN election was hereby suspended indefinitely.

Meanwhile, in another development, the internal wrangling in the AGN which came to a height since the assumption of office by the Ibinabo Fiberesima-led national executive has taken its toll on the Kaduna State chapter chairman of the Guild, Mr Gabriel Okotie.

Information of Okolie’s sack came through a text message by 5pm Saturday after an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council (SEC) in Kaduna the previous day which lasted into the night.

Though reasons were not advanced for his impeachment, it was however gathered from an insider that Okotie was impeached for abdicating his duties as chairman, anti-chapter activities, non-challant attitude toward the executive members as well as lack of accountability of funds accruing to the chapter.

The text message reads, “This is to inform all members of AGN that Mr Gabriel Okotie A., the chairman of Kaduna State chapter has been impeached with effect from July 19, 2013.

The message warned that anyone who transacts any business with him on behalf of AGN does so at his or her own risk as he has no mandate anymore to act on behalf of artistes in the state.

It disclosed that pending when election is conducted to install a successor, the Director of Guild’s Services in the chapter, Uche Ijegalu would act as chairman.
