How Nigerians abroad will support their FIFA world cup team?

Football is the most popular sport in Nigeria. Since 1949 when a group of players called “British Tourists” were recruited to visit Europe, the African giant has continued to cultivate known home talent both at home and abroad. At the start of this year’s FIFA World Cup, this is how Nigerians abroad will support their national team, also known as the Super Eagles.

 Who is the Nigerian team?

The FIFA World Cup is the largest sports event in the world attended by senior national teams among 208 FIFA members. The tournament was launched in 1930 and took place every four years (except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not organized because of World War II), each organized by a different country than its members.

The first Nigerian national team participated in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and so far, has participated in the final five times, losing only to Germany 2006 since the qualifying debut in 1994. This year’s finals in Russia will be their sixth.

Record players from the Super Eagles team regarding the number of FIFA games they have played including Joseph Yobo, Jay-Jay Okocha, Finidi George, Sunday Oliseh, Peter Rufai, Rashidi Yekini, Vincent Enyeama, Mutiu Adepoju, Uche Okechukwu, Taribo West, Kanu Nwankwo and Peter Odemwingie.

Super Eagles are the first team from Africa to Russia 2018. This year’s final 23-person squad is as follows.
